I’ve been so flipping good lately. I’ve been tracking my grubbage on thedailyplate.com and staying under my caloric intake requirements. I’ve lost 20-LBS! I’ve started swimming 3-times a week. I’m running multiple 8-minute miles in a row. I’m lifting weights…I’m getting down right sexy.
HOWEVER…………………..
…..the fundraisers have begun. Buy some crap for Susie’s Band trip… Send out track team to nationals… Support FFA…. Support my kids kindergarten class by buying some cookie dough and wrapping paper. Seriously, who is looking at a magazine of cheezy crap that you know is crap and says, ‘Oh man. I’m glad you put this in front of me, because when I woke up this morning I scratched myself and said, ‘ Man! a gallon of Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Cookie Dough would really hit the spot.’ Oh and throw in 100 rolls of your finest wrapping paper.’
Well I have met my enemy and he is me. That’s right. I caved. I bought two tubs of cookie dough. I passed on the wrapping paper, but it made for a good story. Today, I cracked the lid.
At first I resisted. But I couldn’t hold. I dug in. Four teaspoons and one outrageous sugar rush later, I sealed it back up. I’m so weak. WHY DO I DO THIS!!?>!?!?!?!
I feel so guilty, now all I want to do is exercise and I’ve got to sit here reading boring requirements documents all day long. I’m such a bum.

So, I’ve gotten over myself. I know its been forever since I updated this, its actually just gotten too difficult.
I got a new puppy and got out of my routine. Then had to travel for work. Then got the flu. I’m finally starting to feel better. Then I realized, I was actually in a better routine with the new puppy.
I was probably walking/jogging 60-70 minutes/day. She’s ridiculously adorable. We have started running and she’s still a lazy bones, but she’s getting better. I guess its probably been a pretty good while since I updated this.
We got Lucy after she got dumped at our campsite over the 4th of July weekend in Shiner, TX….ironically after I finished my first ever 5k. So we picked her up and brought her home. She’s awesome. Had our tough nights where I wondered what the hell I was doing, but she’s 4-months and some change old now and is just great. Endlessly entertaining.
But, I’ve still been working out, but honestly I would have had to update my workout 6 or 7 times a day when she was going out every 3 hours, so I just said forget it. I got out of an easily trackable routine, but I did continue to ‘move more everyday.’
But one thing I’ve noticed throughout my life. I will get out of my routines. I will step away from working out for a while. But every time I come back, I (not purposely) add another wrinkle into the workouts. This time, I’ve added swimming.
As much as I hated this summer, and having to run in 94 degree weather at 9 o clock at night, I can still swim in my apartment’s un-heated pool basically in October. We’re still having 90+ degree weather here, and the pool is cold but nice once I get warm.
I have always loved the water, but never swam for fitness. Its great! Its hard and I’m swallowing as much water as I’m swimming through, but I can’t get enough. I love it when my shoulders burn, and my back muscles are screaming. I love the turns, I love kicking and diving under the water. I can only handle about 1500 yards a week right now, but i’m getting there.
Another thing that’s good about the pool is, I’m too heavy to be logging the kind of mileage I was working at. I’m 240 lbs, and running 25 miles per week was beginning to take its toll. I’ll probably try and swim a mile/week and run 15 miles or so. Who knows. I think my next thing will be a bike. I just need to lose some more lbs so I look better in the spandex shorts.
If anyone has any tips on how better to breath on your off side, I’m open to suggestions.
